It’s hard to get over someone you love but it’s even harder to figure out how to get over your first love. That’s because it’s not just any old break up, it’s a break up with the person who first taught you what it means to love.
You two spent almost every day of your life together and you created so many memories that now it’s hard to even imagine what your life is going to be like without them. You feel sad and heartbroken. You’re probably worried that you’ll never find someone like them ever again. In fact, you might even have a hard time picturing yourself being happy again. And although it may not seem like it right now, you will.
The truth is that we’re all capable of loving a great number of people very deeply. And if you simply follow the 3 tips I share below, you’ll be able to figure out how to get over your first love and heal your broken heart.
3 Tips for How to Get Over Your First Love

1. Cut ALL contact with your first love for a month
Here’s thing: you cannot get over your ex and truly move on with your life if you guys are still keeping in touch. You have to cut off all contact while you attempt to get over each other. I know it’s really hard because it feels you’re losing your best friend and one of the few people who really understood you, but this step is simply unavoidable if you want to get over your ex
2. Use this opportunity to grow & become a better person
No relationship is ever a mistake if you can learn something from it. Reflect on what happened and see what you can learn from it. Every challenge gives us the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and become better people. If you handle it right, you can come out of it feeling stronger than ever. Another thing to remember is that the more you grow, the better your future relationships will be. However, if you don’t learn and grow, your relationships will probably play out the same way that this one did. You’ll make all the same mistakes all over again and you’ll probably end up fighting and arguing over all the same things in your next relationship.
3. Don’t be afraid to love again
Just because your first love didn’t work out doesn’t mean that your future relationships are destined to fail. Every person we meet is unique and we will love each person differently. It’s important to remember that the dynamic of every relationship will play out differently with different people. Try not to project what happened in the past into the future. Stay optimistic about the future and open yourself up to the possibility of falling in love again.

As I’m sure you already know, it’s really hard to figure out how to get over someone you love.
You might be struggling to come to terms with the fact that the person you loved so much is gone. You feel devastated and heartbroken. Hell, you probably don’t even feel like yourself right now.
The process of getting over someone you love is tough, and often very long; however, the 3 tips I share below will help you get over your ex a lot faster.
3 Tips for How to Get Over Someone You Love
1. Resist the urge to try to get your ex back
You’re probably going to be in love with your ex for a while after the break up. You may feel the urge to get them back or tell them how much you love them. However, you have to remind yourself that you can’t get over your ex and try to get them back at the same time. If you want to move on with your life, you have to accept that the relationship is over. Your ex left. They’re gone. Instead of spending all your time and energy trying to figure out how to get them back, spend that time focusing on yourself and moving on with your life. Accept that what’s done is done. Leave the relationship in the past, where it belongs.
2. Remember that you guys broke up for a reason
After a break up, we have a tendency to remember all the things we loved about our ex and all the happy memories we had together. Remind yourself of why you broke up, what you hated about your ex and what you guys could never agree on. Recalling all the bad things about your relationship can help you “fall out of love” with your ex.
3. Cut off all contact with your ex for at least a month
To put it plain and simple: you cannot truly get over someone you love if you are keeping in touch with them. I know a part of you feels like the connection you guys have is just too special to throw away; but the fact is this: you can’t be friends with your ex after a break up. Maybe you guys can be friends later, after both of you had some time apart to heal. However, if you try to be friends immediately after the break up, it’ll create a lot of unnecessary complications and make things a lot harder than they have to be. So do yourself a favor and cut all contact while you attempt to get over each other.
